According to the lawsuit, Citi and Wells used the wrong code to report the short sales to credit reporting agency Experian.Experian was also named as a defendant in the lawsuit. Plaintiffs allege that the credit reporting agency failed to ensure that the information Citi and Wells reported to them was accurate and that the credit agency failed to properly investigate consumers’ complaints regarding the matter. The lawsuit seeks class action status and was filed on behalf of John Shaw of Alpine, California, and other consumers. The suit accuses the defendants of violating the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act.Wells Fargo spokesman Tom Goyda said regarding the case, “Wells Fargo is prepared to present its arguments in court.” Citi spokesman Mark Rodgers said, “We deny the allegations and believe the case is without merit.” Experian could not immediately be reached for comment. College hosts annual World Cinema Festival

first_imgSaint Mary’s Center for Women’s Intercultural Leadership (CWIL) office coordinated 2019’s annual World Cinema Festival. The festivities start Tuesday and extend to Friday, showing three movies from across the globe. All showings start at 7 p.m. in Vander Vennett Theater in the Student Center. The showings are free and open to the public.“Generally, I select the films after soliciting suggestions from faculty and students, or anyone else who wants to send me ideas,” Mana Derakhshani, director of CWIL, said. “I look for films that bring new perspectives to our understanding of various places in the world. I also look for award-winning films to ensure good quality.”The World Cinema Festival is an annual event at Saint Mary’s College. “They have offered the World Cinema Festival since 2011,” Derakhshani said. “Before that, we offered a French Film Festival for about five years. So for the past 13 to 14 years, there has been a week of foreign films hosted by Saint Mary’s College.”The films range in origin from year to year. This year’s lineup features the historical drama “Golden Door” from Italy, which follows a struggling Sicilian family and their voyage to New York. “Go Away, Mr. Tumor,” a Chinese film, is based on a famous comic series, and featured from India, is “English to Vinglish,” which is a comedy-drama about a woman learning English. The film festival is part of CWIL’s efforts to internationalize the campus through extra-curricular activities, Derakhshani said. “Although a large percentage of Saint Mary’s students study abroad, they do not all get the experience of immersion in a different culture. Through these films, they can become a very short-term sojourner into a new country,” she said. “The Festival offers students opportunities to learn about the world and increase their global and intercultural perspective through a different medium. It also supports academic programs such as Global Studies, Film Studies and Intercultural Studies.”Films will be shown in their original language with English subtitles, and there will be “country-themed” snacks offered. This is an opportunity to see films not usually seen in the United States, Derakhshani said, as well as to learn something about another culture’s perspective. Merry SETI Holidays

first_imgHow does the SETI Institute say happy holidays?  To find out, visit their year-end press release on Space.com.    SETI Institute CEO Tom Pierson loaded his cheery year-end greeting with all kinds of moral terms.  In his short, upbeat article you can find references to gratitude, well-wishing, beauty, the human spirit, inventiveness, inquisitiveness, exploration, heartfelt thanks, gift-giving, understanding, humility, trust, promises, wisdom, pride, creativity, progress, discovery, significance, generosity, encouragement, quality, gratefulness, fellowship, helpfulness, happiness and industriousness.    Pierson would probably be pleased if someone started the new year by adopting Jill Tarter in SETI’s “Adopt a Scientist” program (see previous week SETI Thursday column on Space.com).You can’t get moral sauce from a Jill Tarter unless there is a soul inside.  This article reveals that SETI research is not being undertaken by neutral, objective, rational, mechanistic evolved animals, but by human beings made in the image of God.  Though turned aside toward false gods, and pursuing their own vain imaginations, the SETI seekers cannot help but reveal their created nature.    Instead of adopting a SETI scientist, we suggest you make a New Year’s resolution to adopt some other things.  Adopt a love for the truth.  Adopt a passion for knowledge, which is the root meaning of science.  Adopt a stance of unyielding opposition against lies, even if the whole world seems to have gone crazy over Darwin in the days ahead.  And most of all, be adopted by your Creator (Ephesians 1).  Happy Truth Year.(Visited 11 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

Gesture Control Wants to Move Us Away from Our Keyboards

first_imgCate Lawrence As companies work to move us beyond our smartphones they are fundamentally changing the way we interact with devices. As voice activation is becoming more mainstream, it’s only a matter of time before gesture control makes its big splash. Anyone who likes to binge watch TV while cooking knows the pain of having to stop kneading dough to pause a show or move to the next episode. In comes Bixi, a device that’s the brainchild of French startup Bluemint Labs. It connects with iOS or Android phones and tablets via Bluetooth LE.However, Bixi does more than just control smartphones. It can operate a GoPro Camera, adjust connected lighting or other smart home devices through gesture control. There’s also a built-in microphone and support for Amazon’s Alexa meaning it can accept verbal commands also.  Bixi currently supports eight gestures, with the intention to add support for more types of gestures as people get more comfortable with Bixi. The device’s sensors easily differentiate between horizontal, diagonal, and vertical swipes.I spoke to Chief Marketing Officer Pierre-Hughes Davoine to find out more at IFA 2017. He explained that the company was currently in conversation with several automotive companies and OEMs to discuss the future integration of their technology into their products. The company intends to release the API of Bixi App to developers who can make new use-cases to be integrated into the main Bixi App via ‘In-App’ Purchases. It;s not the first time this technology has been proposed. Car insurers, Ingenie released research this year predicting the functionality of the cars of the future. They forecast that keys will be eschewed for a fingerprint sensor, iris scanner or other biometric systems to identify you as you walk up and open the door. The windows will have AR capabilities and embedded touchscreen. Some driving functions will be carried out through gesture controls and voice activation instead of buttons and a steering wheel.Kinemic brings writing to the airFounded in March 2016, German startup Kinemic takes Bixi’s ideas several steps further with not only gesture control but the ability to write in the air (as if signing your name perhaps) and click on an ‘air mouse.’  I’ve seen a demonstration of the writing capability in person and it’s something quite wonderful. Kinemic enables the gesture control of digital devices – such as PCs, smartphones, wearables or AR glasses. Their focus is industrial customers can use the technology to improve their processes to become safer, more ergonomic and faster.  They’ve piloted with the pharmaceutical and automotive sectors and won a place in the DeutschBahn (Germany’s national railway) MindBox Accelerator in July this year, providing them with hands-on access to the railway sector.MYO ArmbandsA slightly earlier application is MYO armbands by Canadian based Thalmic Labs that uses, as the name implies, electromyography, a sensor technology that is typically used in the medical world, to pick up electrical impulses from muscles. These allow users to control computers, toys, and other devices. It uses Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy to communicate with the device it’s paired with. The company offers SDKs for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Andriod. Some keen developers have already developed a plethora of use cases ranging from surgical applications to controlling drones. There’s even a marketplace for apps developed. Amazon’s Alexa fund invested in Thalmic Labs‘ US series B last fall although it’s unclear what the company will focus on next. Asia Cup: BCCI hands over hosting rights to Emirates Cricket Board

first_imgDubai, Aug 17 (PTI) The decks were finally cleared today for the Asia Cup as BCCI officially handed over its hosting rights to the Emirates Cricket Board. “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Emirates Cricket Board signed an agreement today for the United Arab Emirates to host the 2018 edition of the Asia Cup,” the BCCI stated in a release. The agreement was signed in Dubai with the BCCI being represented by its acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and CEO Rahul Johri. The chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, signed on their behalf. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will take part in the tournament. They will be joined by a sixth team — the winner of the Asian Cricket Council qualifier event. The tournament will be held from September 15 to 28 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The event was originally scheduled in India with BCCI playing the hosts but Pakistan’s participation was an issue considering the prevailing political situation between the neighbouring countries. The BCCI couldn’t procure relevant clearance from government security agencies to host Pakistan. Earlier this year, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided that the tournament will be shifted to UAE but India will be hosting the tournament. BCCI acting secretary Choudhary said:”We are thankful to the Emirates Cricket Board for hosting the 2018 Asia Cup on behalf of the BCCI. We will see some of the sports powerhouse nations go head-to-head for ultimate glory and I am confident that cricket fans around the world will enjoy every moment of this prestigious event.”advertisement However, the COA faction was not on the same page with BCCI office bearers regarding handing over the hosting rights to the UAE. Since organisation would involve financial transactions in foreign currency, a senior BCCI office bearer had pointed out that FEMA (Foreign Exchanges Management Act) rules need to be thoroughly checked after the IPL II fiasco when Cricket South Africa hosted the cash-rich league in 2009. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) sanctions USD 2.5 million to the hosts for organisational purposes but it was pointed out that operational costs shoots up in the UAE. The BCCI release does not state what will be the profit sharing mode from the ticket sales. The TV broadcast money goes to ACC. The major attraction of this tournament is two assured Indo-Pakistan clashes. From ECB, it’s chairman said, “It is a matter of great pride for the UAE to host a prestigious event like the Asia Cup. Our country is home to a large section of people from the participating nations and we feel privileged and excited by the opportunity to bring their favourite sport right here to their doorstep. “This is the biggest cricketing event to be held in the UAE and we will ensure every support to make the 2018 Asia Cup a huge success.” PTI KHSAHlast_img read more

first_imgChelsea boss Lampard blows fuse with Deschamps over Kante treatmentby Paul Vegas7 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveChelsea boss Frank Lampard has hit out at France coach Didier Deschamps and his medical team over their handling of N’Golo Kante.Kante will miss Chelsea’s home game against Newcastle due to a groin problem and Lampard was clearly frustrated that his midfielder, who has also been dogged by knee, ankle and hamstring issues this season, was not sent home from international duty sooner.Kante was ruled out of France’s first game after picking up the problem in the warm-up before their 1-0 win in Iceland.Lampard said: “We didn’t get him [Kante] back until after the second game [Turkey] and he’s not fit for Saturday.”Before the international break, I know Didier Deschamps mentioned in jest a little bit about Olivier Giroud and that was obviously quite light-hearted and I get it, we all have our selection problems and he had his in the two games.”But the Kante one was not a laughing matter because we communicated before the last international break because he was injured so couldn’t go.”Let’s think what benefits the player, he didn’t go, we both agreed on that. That’s how things should work.”After the first game when he pulled out, he then had a fitness test the day before the second game, it was clear that he couldn’t play.”He then sat on the bench on the evening of the game, so that’s not communication, so it’s not such a laughing matter I suppose.”And it’s more for Kante himself because he’s not an inexperienced player, he’s been around the block, he’s won World Cups, he’s been a fantastic player. I think that probably could have been handled better for sure.”Our doctors were speaking and there were some times when things weren’t coming back to us when I would expect them to come back – that’s what I mean about communication.”Even though we joked about the communication from the time before, that was much better to deal with it, as opposed to not.”We got a player back a bit later. I understand when players are on international duty, they are their player as such but it was quite clear he wasn’t fit to play.”From our point of view we would have wanted him back to work on him but it’s been and gone and as with every international player I will try and have open lines of communication with every manager for both our sake’s.”Kante, for instance, the first squad, nobody would have benefited from him going – me, him or France.”We have to think about the long-term and the care of the player as well so that’s sometimes a bit of a grey area.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more
